OUR STORY

WHO WE ARE

The Shared Plate is a community interest company with people and food at its heart. We believe the right to good food should be shared by all and shouldn’t come at the cost of our planet or the lives of those working to produce it. We create beautiful food experiences for every occasion, whether it be catering for weddings, business events or a simple lunch

All our profits go towards our programmes that aim to connect, inspire and build resilience in people and communities, through food.

Since founding the organisation in July 2018 we have been working with groups from all walks of life; including young people, refugees & asylum seekers & community groups from across the UK, through working together, cooking and sharing a meal together where we can create stronger connections with ourselves, each other and with our environment.

Our latest project is the opening of a community kitchen & workshop space in Mumbles, Swansea.  We have a host of exciting workshops and events curated with and for the community.  Friday & Sundays provide an exciting opportunity to provide delicious, sustainably sourced food to the local community and visitors through our restaurant events.  I
We run cookery programmes from the space that is a chance for people of all ages & abilities to build connection to themselves, each other and what it means to have access to good food for everyone.

We are re-imagining the way our food system can and must be; local, seasonal, low carbon, and shared with everyone. We invite you to join us in this mission.

Enjoy fine food for good!

NIAOMH CONVERY

CO-FOUNDER

NIAOMH has been cooking from the day she stepped into a kitchen with her Dad aged 9. She’s brought her passion for food everywhere since, from the popular Camberwell Arms, voted #1 of the Guardian’s 50 best Sunday lunches 2017 as well as the winner of the OFM Awards 2015, to high end caterers Klose & Soan.

Niaomh co-founded the Deptford Community Cookbook Project, bringing together the diverse community of Deptford through food. She is the co-founder of The Ground Up, giving refugees new skills through natural build techniques. At Oinofyta Refugee Camp in Greece, she started a community garden and a small refugee-run business.

Since 2016 Niaomh has lived and worked at the centre for sustainability and leadership, Embercombe, where she headed up the kitchen, designing, facilitating and cooking seasonal menus for up to 100 people using the biodynamic produce from the land. This was her eureka moment, experiencing the value of local, seasonal food combined with community building and experiential learning.

ANNIE DUCKWORTH

FRONT OF HOUSE MANAGER
Annie joined the team in spring 2019, after attending our monthly Chop 'n' Chat community group. Since joining she has worked as a facilitator for Chop 'n' Chat and our Cultural Kitchen programme.

Annie has a passion for cooking, with a special interest in vegetarian food & cooking seasonally, from the land.

She has a background in cooking for yoga retreats, has worked as an adult educator and has an extensive knowledge of gardening. Her light hearted approach to work and life is a valuable asset to our team.

MEGAN NASH

CO-FOUNDER

MEGAN started her career in environmental behaviour change working with Global Action Plan and the Women’s Environmental Network, where she came face to face with the complexity and challenges of the food system.

Megan moved to Embercombe to discover what it really means to eat locally and seasonally, and to deepen her understanding of land-based and experiential learning.

As an experienced facilitator and all round lover of food, Megan has worked with school groups, hard to reach adults and business leaders, sharing all the elements of food that she loves; creating beautiful dishes, sourcing local ingredients, imagining a food system that works for everyone.

In 2020 Megan has become a Trustee for The Shared Plate, continuing to advise on the project going forward and to work on our core programmes. For the most part, Megan will be turning her attention to work in her local community of Ashburton, Devon.

OUR TEAM
The Shared Plate couldn't exist without the support of our dedicated part time team & volunteers, who approach all our work with dedication and enthusiasm.
