YOUTH COOKS

YOUTH PROGRAMMES

SELF ESTEEM - EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE - CREATIVITY

We are passionate about working with young people. Our workshops give young people of all ages & backgrounds the chance to explore their creativity, to build their confidence, focus and learn new skills. All our programmes are participant driven, we listen to what's most needed and create a learning experience that's right for the group.

YOUTH COOKS

YOUTH cooks is a four to seven week programme that inspires young people aged 11-16 to build confidence, resilience & connection through cooking . Our participants learn a host of new cooking skills from handmade pasta to fresh baked bread & proper curry. As a grand finale, our budding young chefs cook a 3-course meal for the general public who pay what they feel their meal is worth.
If you know a young person in Swansea who would benefit from this programme you can register interest here. If you are an organisation working with young people who would benefit from this programme please contact us here.
To find out when our next Youth Pop-up kitchen will be follow us on social media.

We also run one off sessions that are aimed at 8- 14 and host kids cooking parties too. Contact us here for more information.

LIFEBEAT

Lifebeat is a charity with a mission to improve the emotional wellbeing of young people (ages 14-18). Every year The Shared Plate run the food programme for Lifebeat’s camps. Food plays a vital role, helping to grow confidence and self-esteem.

We are joined daily by young people who create the meals the Lifebeat community enjoy, taking pride and ownership in learning new skills. We also use this time to ask big questions about our food like where does our meat come from? And how do food and culture interact? What does it mean to have food privilege? AND most importantly what does it mean to have fun with food?

KENSINGTON ALRIDGE ACADEMY

Part of a forward thinking new schools programme supporting children ages 12-15 with severe behavioural challenges to get back into the classroom.

Here we worked closely with 8 young people engaging them fully in the process of cooking a meal to share. We really believe in meeting young people where they are at, not pushing our own agenda, so this programme is all about fun; the classic ‘meatball marinara’ Subway was a hit as they learned to make everything - from the meatballs to the bread - from scratch.

"I never realised I could be a good cook, when Miss (Niaomh) said we were going to make Subway's Meatball Marinara Sub, the bread and everything I thought No, but we did it. Yeah it was us."
